General Motors : GM to Build EVs at Spring Hill, Tenn., Plant

10/20/2020 | 11:45am EST

By Stephen Nakrosis

General Motors Co. said Tuesday its assembly plant in Spring Hill, Tenn., would become the automaker's third facility manufacturing electric vehicles.

The company said its Cadillac LYRIQ will be the first EV produced at Spring Hill, adding both traditionally powered and electric vehicles will be built at the plant.

GM also said it would invest in five Michigan plants, including the Lansing Delta Township Assembly and Flint Assembly, for future crossover, full-size pickup and Cruise AV production.

Investment in the six facilities will total over $2 billion, the company said.

The company also said in the last 19 months, it has committed more than $4.5 billion at three of its U.S. facilities to prepare them for electric-vehicle related production.

"We are committed to investing in the U.S., our employees and our communities," said Mary Barra, the company's chairman and chief executive, adding, "These investments underscore the success of our vehicles today, and our vision of an all-electric future."
