Gevo Inc. said Monday that its climate-smart farm to flight project has been selected by the U.S. Department of Agriculture to receive up to $30 million in funding on the efforts to lower its carbon footprint.

The renewable chemicals and biofuels company said that the aim of the project is to create climate-smart market incentives for low carbon-intensity corn, as well as to accelerate the production of sustainable aviation fuel to lower the dependency on fossil-based fuels.

The company's farm was one of the 70 projects selected by the USDA under the first pool of the partnerships for climate-smart commodities funding, which totals $2.8 billion.
