China is expected to register the highest chlorine capacity additions in Asia between 2022 to 2026, contributing about 48% of the total capacity additions by 2026, says GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company.

GlobalData's report, 'Chlorine Industry Capacity and Capital Expenditure Forecasts with Details of All Active and Planned Plants, 2021-2026', reveals that China will have five new-build and expansion projects with capacity additions of about 1.95 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) by 2026.

Teja Pappoppula, Oil and Gas Analyst at GlobalData, says: "In China, majority of the capacity additions will be from Xinjiang Zhongtai Chemical Company Baicheng Chlorine Plant, with a capacity of 0.71 mtpa. It is expected to commence production of chlorine in 2023."

Tianjin Bohai Chemical Development Company Tianjin Chlorine Plant will be the second highest plant in terms of capacity additions with a capacity of 0.60 mtpa by 2022.

Guangxi Huayi New Materials Qinzhou Chlorine Plant 1 and Fujian Southeast Electrochemical Fuzhou Chlorine Plant 2 will be the third highest contribution in terms of capacity additions each with 0.27 mtpa capacity by 2023. They are operated by Guangxi Huayi New Materials Co Ltd and Fujian Southeast Electrochemical Co Ltd.
