Construction of an 8,000 sqm prime logistics facility in Pioltello, Italy, for the leading online retailer Amazon started at the end of February and is due for completion in September 2021.

Pioltello Logistics Centre forms part of Goodman's global strategy to meet the increasing demand for strategically located logistics space with easy access to large consumer markets. The prime location will enable deliveries to 2.5 million people in a 30-minute driving time1.

Sustainability has been key in planning this Class A facility. The property will include future-proof features such as 256 e-charging stations for cars, trucks and vans to facilitate and encourage green deliveries. Rooftop solar PV will produce 160 kWp which will be used to offset the building's power needs. This amounts to the equivalent of planting almost 9,500 trees, which in a one-year life cycle absorb 94,500 kg of CO2.

A BREEAM Excellent certification is targeted for the building.

4,000 sqm of parkland will be created for the well-being of our customers and community. Customers will benefit from excellent transport links to service the Eastern part of Milan.

Stefano Fierro, Country Manager Goodman in Italy, commented on this new project: 'Pioltello Logistics Centre will see us continue to deliver our global strategy of investing in sought-after locations close to large consumer populations. The project is also an excellent example of our commitment to sustainability and achieving carbon neutrality. Thanks to the co-operation with the municipality of Pioltello and the local authorities, almost six hectares of land will be transferred to the municipality for the development of a new sporting centre.'

'The Goodman Logistics property was designed to be avant-garde and meet the highest international standards of environmental and energy sustainability, as was immediately requested and agreed with the municipal administration,' comments the town councillor and deputy mayor of Pioltello Saimon Gaiotto. 'We are also pleased that this building will be fully set for the deployment of electrical fleet in the coming years. The project is located in an area that was zoned before 2010, and its location ensures minimal impact on the local road network. For the city hall, it was important to reduce the effects of the new activity on traffic in the area, thing that Goodman naturally paid a strong attention to. Finally, the urban planning operation will make it possible to acquire 63,000 square metres of land between the swimming pool and the party area for the future Pioltello sports centre: the environment and the quality of life of citizens remain priorities for this Administration'.
