GPT recognised for its leadership in environmental sustainability in DJSI 2015/16

The GPT Group (GPT) has been recognised for its leadership in environmental sustainability in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) for 2015/16.

GPT achieved the highest score among the world's property companies in the 'environmental dimension' of the DJSI, with 95 out of 100. The Group achieved an overall score of 85, which was among the highest achieved globally in its sector and well above the sector average of 45.

The Dow Jones Sustainability Index measures the performance of the world's sustainability leaders. Companies are assessed on long-term economic, environmental and social criteria that account for general as well as industry-specific sustainability trends.

GPT Head of Asset Management Matthew Faddy said GPT has continued its impressive track record of maintaining an industry leading position in sustainable performance, challenging the rest of the industry.

"GPT continues to minimise the environmental impact of the business, while also delivering better commercial outcomes for our customers and investors," Mr Faddy said.

"Our 800 Bourke Street office in Melbourne for example achieved the first Green Star rating for a building's operational performance.

"Last year, GPT achieved $23.5 million in energy cost savings when compared to the energy intensity of our buildings in 2005."

The Group's strong result in the DJSI follows the standout results achieved in the recent 2015 Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark (GRESB) Survey, where GPT achieved Regional Sector Leader status for Diversified - Retail and Office. GPT and its managed funds have remained in the top performance quadrant of GRESB, known as 'Green Stars', for the past five years.

The latest DJSI and GRESB survey results coincide with GPT achieving the milestone of having reduced the emissions intensity of its operations by 50 per cent since 2005. This is halfway towards GPT's policy position of achieving zero emissions.
