SAN MATEO, Calif. (AP) _ Guidewire Software Inc. (GWRE) on Wednesday reported fiscal fourth-quarter net income of $38.8 million.

On a per-share basis, the San Mateo, California-based company said it had profit of 46 cents. Earnings, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, were 83 cents per share.

The results surpassed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of six analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 45 cents per share.

The provider of software to the insurance industry posted revenue of $243.7 million in the period, which also topped Street forecasts. Four analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $208.4 million.

For the year, the company reported a loss of $27.2 million, or 33 cents per share, swinging to a loss in the period. Revenue was reported as $742.3 million.

For the current quarter ending in November, Guidewire Software said it expects revenue in the range of $162 million to $166 million. Analysts surveyed by Zacks had expected revenue of $168.1 million.

The company expects full-year revenue in the range of $723 million to $733 million.

Guidewire Software shares have climbed nearly 8% since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Wednesday, shares hit $118.38, a rise of 27% in the last 12 months.
