The Hamon Group has been selected by Fuji Electric Co., Ltd. to take part in the Tauhara Geothermal Power Project with an FRP induced draft cooling tower. Tauhara, located near Lake Taupo, in the center of New Zealand's North Island, about 280 kilometers south of Auckland, will help to meet New Zealand's increased electricity needs over the next decades.

Geothermal energy, one of the world's most environmentally friendly techniques for producing electricity, plays an essential role in New Zealand generation mix and in the transition away from fossil fuels. With more than 1,000MW of active geothermal power generation, New Zealand is one of the top geothermal power producing countries worldwide. The planned output of the plant is 152 MW with an expected completion of the largest single geothermal power unit in 2023.

Geothermal energy generated from deep inside the earth's core is the only form of renewable electricity generation in New Zealand that is not dependant on the weather and provides reliable base load generation 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The steam and hot water produced inside the earth are used to generate electricity, to heat buildings and to help operate commercial industry.
