(Hong Kong, January 20, 2014) As a good corporate citizen, Hang Lung Properties Limited (HKSE stock code: 101) is always aware of its responsibilities towards the underprivileged in the community. To support  people in need, Hang Lung is pleased to announce the donation of HK$1 million towards the "Hang Lung x Lok Kwan Community Cuisine" to provide affordable and nutritious meals to the elderly living in Wong Tai Sin and Kwun Tong. It is expected that around 40,000 meals will be provided to around 2,000 beneficiaries in the coming two years.

A launch ceremony was held at the Tsz Wan Shan center of Lok Kwan Social Services yesterday (January 19) in the presence of Hang Lung volunteers and 40 elderly persons who will be beneficiaries of the community canteen. Renowned artist Ms Nancy Sit also attended the ceremony with Hang Lung's chef Mr Lo Wai Kuen to demonstrate how to cook festive and healthy dishes. Apart from singing Chinese New Year song,  Ms Sit also distributed gift packs to the elderly, bringing much fun and joy to all those who were present.

Mr Kwan Chuk Fai, Assistant Director - Corporate Communications of Hang Lung Properties, said, "We are all enjoying the fruits of an economic prosperity that could not have been achieved without the immense contributions made by the elderly. Elderly people should get more attention and care from the community apart from financial support. Therefore, in addition to the donation, members of our corporate volunteer team will make regular home visits in the coming year to elderly people who for various reasons cannot go to the community canteen themselves to enjoy the meals. Our volunteers will bring them nutritious soup, care and love."

The Hang Lung donation will support the operating expenses of the community canteen for the coming two years, including the costs of food, cooking and transportation. Those elderly people benefiting from the service need to pay only HK$10 to enjoy a nutritious meal. The menu is tailor-made to ensure that the elderly can have a good, healthy diet which is not a burden financially.

Over the years, Lok Kwan Social Services has launched a variety of diversified projects to alleviate poverty. One such project is the community canteen for low-income families and the elderly, set up with the support of the Partnership Fund for the Disadvantaged of the Social Welfare Department. In addition, Lok Kwan organizes regular talks and seminars to inform beneficiaries about their rights. The canteen also succeeds in acting as a platform for the beneficiaries to form a neighborhood mutual support network.
