HCL Technologies Ltd. posted third-quarter results on Friday. Here's what you need to know.

NET PROFIT: HCL Technologies' net profit rose 31% from a year earlier to 39.82 billion rupees ($544.9 million) for the quarter ended December. That beat the estimate of INR31.92 billion in a poll of analysts by S&P Global Market Intelligence.

REVENUE: Third-quarter revenue increased 6.4% from a year earlier to INR193.02 billion. That was slightly better than the estimated of INR190.85 billion in the S&P Global Market Intelligence poll.

WHAT WE WATCHED:

--MIXED GROWTH: Sales growth was uneven across industries and geographic regions. Revenue rose 20% for the technology and services industry, and 13% for the life science and healthcare sector but fell 13% for manufacturing and 7.0% for telecommunications and entertainment. By geography, revenue rose 2.2% for Americas and fell 1.0% for Europe.

--GUIDANCE: HCL Technologies expects fourth-quarter revenue to increase between 2% and 3% from the previous quarter in constant currency terms. That is an upgrade from the 1.5% to 2.5% growth it projected previously.
