COSMOTE 5G: The largest 5G network with 90% population coverage in Athens and Thessaloniki

COSMOTE 5G, the largest^[1] 5G network, continues its rapid expansion throughout Greece. Patras and Corfu are the latest cities to welcome COSMOTE 5G, the internet of the future. Furthermore, new areas in South and East Attica, from Rafina and Pallini to Sounio, gained access to the 5th generation network. Thanks to the company's investments and its technicians' intensive efforts, COSMOTE 5G population coverage in Athens and Thessaloniki now exceeds 90%.

Overall, including Athens and Thessaloniki, COSMOTE 5G has now been activated in a total of 17 cities throughout Greece, as COSMOTE 5G was already available in late 2020 in Volos, Karditsa, Larisa and Trikala in the region of Thessaly, in Ioannina and Igoumenitsa in the region of Epirus, in Drama, Kavala and Xanthi in the region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, and in Giannitsa, Naousa and Serres in the region of Central Macedonia, as well as in Mytilene, the capital of the island Lesvos.

COSMOTE 5G will continue to expand throughout the year into even more regions of Greece, aiming at nationwide population coverage^[2] exceeding 50% by late 2021.

COSMOTE 5G: Incredible speeds exceeding 1Gbps for the first time ever in Greece

For the first time ever in Greece, COSMOTE has made 5th generation services available commercially, creating new prospects for Greece's digital growth. 5G technology is more than the next generation of wireless communication. The full development of COSMOTE 5G's network capabilities comes into effect gradually with the activation of the new spectrum allocated to COSMOTE through the auction that was carried out by the Hellenic Telecommunications and Post Commission (EETT).

Access to the COSMOTE 5G network is available to all COSMOTE subscribers, residential and business, at no extra charge, and regardless of their plan (contract, cost control, prepaid). The only requirement is that they have a 5G device that has been certified in the COSMOTE network. Thanks to its partnership with the largest manufacturers, COSMOTE has the largest variety of certified 5G devices, as there is now a total of 21 5G smartphones that provide access to COSMOTE 5G.
