With a total investment of US$1.2 billion, the US Embassy Complex project in Hanoi broke ground in April 2023. To meet the rigorous technical standards, quality, and safety requirements set by the US Government, the project has selected multiple high-quality steel products from Hoa Phat Group, including over 5,000 tons of ASTM A615/615M Grade 60 ribbed steel. This steel meets US standards, featuring superior physical and mechanical properties.
Hoa Phat has produced many high-quality steel grades to serve large projects
Hoa Phat's ASTM A615/615M Grade 60 ribbed steel is manufactured in accordance with US standards. This unique steel is produced using a process that involves natural cooling without quenching, providing exceptional mechanical properties and remarkable toughness. The product's surface quality adheres to the stringent technical specifications required by the US Government, general contractor B.L. Harbert International, and the main contractor, Le Thy Construction Company.
Before being selected for the US Embassy Complex project, Hoa Phat, in collaboration with its distributor, Dat Viet Steel Joint Stock Company, and the construction contractor, underwent a comprehensive evaluation process to ensure it met the US Government's strict technical requirements.
Following this, Hoa Phat's production capacity was assessed, and experts from the general and main contractors visited the Hoa Phat Hai Duong Steel Complex for further technical evaluation. Subsequently, steel samples were sent to a laboratory in Washington D.C. for testing and approval.
Mr. Dang Viet Thanh, Head of Technology at Hoa Phat Hai Duong Steel, stated that in addition to supplying special high-quality steel grades such as ASTM A615/615M and ASTM A706/706M Grade 60 for the US Embassy Complex, Hoa Phat has received increasing orders for high-performance construction steel that meets specific mechanical property requirements and temperature stability.
Hoa Phat Group's engineers have tailored their production processes to meet the specific technical and quality demands of key projects. By adjusting various factors in the production process, they ensure the steel meets the most stringent standards required by customers and investors.
Hoa Phat has successfully produced Grade 60 steel bars according to ASTM A615/A615M and ASTM A706/706M standards (as per US specifications), solidifying its position as Southeast Asia's largest steel manufacturer. These products ensure technical stability in challenging working environments, with finished steel meeting the minimum yield strength of 420 MPa and a tensile strength of 620 MPa, all achieved using natural cold rolling technology without water quenching.
Before supplying steel to the US Embassy project, Hoa Phat had already mastered the technology for producing unquenched steel, which has been exported to markets in the US, Mexico, Peru, and beyond, receiving positive feedback. Domestically, Hoa Phat's steel has been used in major projects such as the metro lines in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, as well as other key infrastructure initiatives.
Additionally, Hoa Phat's two complexes in Dung Quat and Hai Duong have been at the forefront of developing high-quality steel product lines, including specialized steels for applications such as car tire beading, screws, welding rods, elevator cables, crane steel, prestressed steel, and coiled ribbed steel (DBIC), all produced in accordance with international standards such as UK BS4449 and UKCares certification.
The US Embassy Complex is located on Pham Van Bach Street, Cau Giay District, Hanoi, covering an area of 3.2 hectares with a total construction area of 39,000 square meters. The design of the new embassy building is inspired by the natural beauty of Ha Long Bay and is expected to rise 8 stories. The project, which commenced on April 15, 2023, represents a significant investment of US$1.2 billion. |
