SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) _ Horace Mann Educators Corp. (HMN) on Tuesday reported first-quarter profit of $39.3 million.

On a per-share basis, the Springfield, Illinois-based company said it had net income of 93 cents. Earnings, adjusted for investment costs, were $1.10 per share.

The provider of auto and homeowners' insurance for teachers and other educators posted revenue of $322 million in the period.

Horace Mann expects full-year earnings in the range of $3 to $3.20 per share.

Horace Mann shares have fallen nearly 3% since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Tuesday, shares hit $40.85, a rise of 21% in the last 12 months.
