On Tuesday, August 13, 22 employees volunteered for Host's service event at the Warrior Canine Connection (WCC) Healing Quarters in Boyds, MD. At WCC, one dog can help more than 60 warriors. Each puppy is purpose-bred for service and then socialized with more than 100 active military, recovering warriors and civilians who visit the facilities and interact with the puppies. Warriors coping with post-deployment challenges then raise and train the dogs while also healing themselves. And once training is complete, dogs are paired with a wounded warrior in need of a service dog.

Employees started the morning learning about WCC's efforts while three service dogs curiously watched them. Volunteers then split up into two groups-a few employees weeded garden beds and added a fresh layer of mulch while the rest painted the outside of the Welcome Center. Volunteers completed these tasks by mid-morning, then painted fences throughout the property.

By the end of the morning, the group had weeded and mulched around 9 flower beds and 10 trees, painted over 1,600 sq. ft including the entire exterior of the Welcome Center and back of the Training Center and painted approximately 12,000 linear feet of fencing.
Employees also had an opportunity to meet some of the service dogs that have already been placed and play with some of the puppies that will be trained for future service.
