BOSTON (AP) _ Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Co. (HMHC) on Thursday reported a third-quarter loss of $12.6 million, after reporting a profit in the same period a year earlier.

On a per-share basis, the Boston-based company said it had a loss of 10 cents.

The book publisher posted revenue of $386.6 million in the period.

The company's shares closed at $2.75. A year ago, they were trading at $6.22.
