Press Blogs Leave Lost PC Security Worries Behind with HP Wolf Protect and Trace Service

With the hybrid workforce here to stay for many companies, employees are working from more diverse locations than ever before. This makes it critical for IT to have the right security in place to protect employee devices and sensitive company data.

The true risk with a lost or stolen PC isn't just the hardware cost and lost productivity. The average cost of data breach from a lost or stolen laptop has surpassed $4 million globally and can top over $9 million in the US.1 Malicious actors can wreak havoc on your corporate network and gain access to valuable company IP faster than it typically takes an organization to identify and contain a breach, which is over nine and a half months.2

Hybrid work environments will only continue to exacerbate this threat. With the reality of only 1 in 3 remote workers having a dedicated home office space,3 and the expanded availability of public internet access expected over the next four years,4 a recent HP Wolf Security study found that 81% of IT managers feel that the flexibility allowed by remote work significantly increases the threat of corporate network breaches.5 But what if your IT team had a way to stop a breach on a missing device in its tracks, or prevent it before it even had a chance to begin?

HP Wolf Protect and Trace6 is an innovative new service, designed with HP Labs, that enables IT to seamlessly locate devices and take action to lock or erase the data on those devices if they are lost or stolen. The service helps protect company data, helps customers locate their HP devices, and prevents unauthorized use of lost or stolen devices.7 It is the world's most secure find, lock, and wipe service8 using state of the art cryptography to ensure multiple IT approvers must be independently involved to remotely lock devices and erase data. In typical industry solutions, only one IT admin can take such actions, making the system vulnerable if that one IT admin's log-in is compromised. HP Wolf Protect and Trace also helps IT respond more quickly to reported lost or stolen devices with comprehensive monitoring through a single, integrated analytics platform: the HP TechPulse Dashboard.9

Existing HP customers of services such as HP Proactive Insights and HP Active Care will appreciate the simplicity of being able to manage the features of HP Wolf Protect and Trace through the same HP TechPulse Dashboard that they use to monitor the health, performance, and compliance status of their current device fleet. Paired with HP Wolf Security in HP commercial devices, customers will benefit from hardware security enforced by the HP Endpoint Security Controller and hardware-enforced persistence by HP Sure Run Gen410, making remote wipe and lock protection that much more reliable and HP Wolf Protect & Trace harder to remove.

The impacts of losing a company-owned device extend beyond financial impacts. HP Wolf Protect and Trace helps mitigate risks and reduces the total impact, such as data loss, associated with losing a PC. Using the "Find your Device" feature of HP Wolf Protect and Trace, IT teams can quickly identify the location of a missing device and then decide if they want to simply lock the device until it can be retrieved or wipe the data to protect unauthorized access. Companies now have a comprehensive way to locate a missing or stolen PC and easily lock or erase files and data if necessary.
