Dozens of websites across the UK, US and around the world are currently down, including HSBC, Barclays, American Express, Delta Airlines, British Airways, Tesco Bank, alongside the PlayStation Network, Airbnb and Waitrose, as well as ITV and TSB.

British Airways is also down. A message on the BA website read: “Service Unavailable – DNS failure. The server is temporarily unable to service your request. Please try again later.”

Emergency issue

Akamai, a content distribution network, or CDN, which helps data move around the internet, said on its website it’s investigating “an emerging issue with the Edge DNS service.”

The company said it expects to provide an update on its service disruption around 6pm London time.

Oracle, a cloud service provider, said moments ago it is “monitoring a global issue related to Akamai edge DNS that is impacting access to many internet resources, including Oracle cloud properties.”

A message on Airbnb’s site said: “This site can’t be reached.”

HSBC’s website displays a similar messgae.

There are reports a number of mayor airlines in the US are also down.
