Huaneng Power International Inc. first-half profit rose 58% on year mainly supported by the decline in fuel prices, but overall business remained weak due to Covid-19 curbs.

Net profit for the period ended June came in at 5.44 billion yuan (US$785.9 million), but revenue was down 5.35% on year to CNY79.13 billion, the company said late Tuesday.

During the period, the total electricity sold by the company was 172.125 billion kilo watt hours, a near 7% drop over the same period last year, an indication of how the Covid-19 restrictions saw temporary closure of factories and malls thereby hurting electricity consumption.
