TORONTO (AP) _ HudBay Minerals Inc. (HBM) on Tuesday reported a loss of $24 million in its third quarter.

On a per-share basis, the Toronto-based company said it had a loss of 9 cents. Losses, adjusted for non-recurring gains, were 10 cents per share.

The results exceeded Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of 16 analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for a loss of 12 cents per share.

The mining company posted revenue of $316.1 million in the period, which also topped Street forecasts. Fifteen analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $275 million.

In the final minutes of trading on Tuesday, the company's shares hit $4.98. A year ago, they were trading at $3.91.
