HUGO BOSS : takes part in the 2025 Recycled Polyester Challenge

Along with the Fashion Industry Charter, Textile Exchange is calling on the fashion and apparel industry to increase the proportion of recycled polyester it uses to 45% by the year 2025. This would be the equivalent of 17.1 million metric tons. This is the first step towards increasing the recycled volume share to 90% by 2030.

At HUGO BOSS, natural fibers like cotton make up a large part of the materials we use. However, across the entire apparel industry, polyester remains the most used fiber. It is made from non-renewable resources and its production requires a lot of energy. Polyester from recycled sources is a more sustainable alternative, with a much lower carbon footprint. Currently, only 14% of polyester comes from recycled sources. Increasing this proportion offers a significant opportunity to reduce the industry's impact on the climate.

Companies can commit to the challenge by setting up targets to replace their current sources of polyester with the recycled alternative. HUGO BOSS has set the target of using at least 50% recycled synthetic fibers by 2025 and, in doing so, has officially accepted the '2025 Recycled Polyester Challenge'. The brands taking part in this challenge report their progress annually in a survey conducted by Textile Exchange.
