Health insurer Humana Inc. is looking for a new chief financial officer following the resignation of Brian Kane, who will step down on June 1.

Mr. Kane is leaving to pursue other career goals, the Louisville, Ky.-based company said on Monday, without providing additional details. Mr. Kane will serve as an adviser through the end of the year, the company said. He has been Humana's CFO since 2014.

Humana has begun searching for a new finance chief, the company said.

Susan Diamond, president of the company's home business, will act as interim finance chief until a successor is found. She joined Humana in 2006 and has held several senior-level roles, including on the company's Medicare team and overseeing enterprise planning and forecasting.

"Given Susan's strong knowledge of our business and financial expertise, I have great confidence in her ability to lead the finance team as we recruit a new CFO," Bruce Broussard, Humana's president and chief executive, said in a press release.

Mr. Kane, who previously worked in investment banking, led Humana's finances during a period of industry consolidation. In 2017, the company abandoned a planned merger with Aetna Inc., following a federal judge's decision to block the deal on antitrust grounds. Humana also expanded into the hospice and home healthcare business, including through acquisitions in 2018 of Curo Health Services and Kindred Healthcare Inc.

Net income in 2020 was $3.37 billion, up 24% from a year earlier.

"We expect there will be plenty of interest from top industry talent to interview for the seat," Scott Fidel, an analyst with Stephens Inc., said in a research note to clients.
