LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) _ Humana Inc. (HUM) on Wednesday reported first-quarter earnings of $930 million.

The Louisville, Kentucky-based company said it had profit of $7.29 per share. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs and amortization costs, came to $8.04 per share.

The results exceeded Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of six analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $6.83 per share.

The health insurer posted revenue of $23.97 billion in the period, also topping Street forecasts. Seven analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $23.55 billion.

Humana expects full-year earnings to be $24.50 per share.
