Humana Inc. said Thursday that its military subsidiary has been awarded a contract by the defense health agency of the U.S. Department of Defense.

The contract secured by Humana Military has a potential value of about $70.8 billion, according to the Department of Defense.

Humana Military's contract has a 12-month base period set to begin on Feb 1, 2023, eight additional one-year base periods for health care delivery, and another transition-out period.

The tricare program is aimed at providing care program for active duty service members, their respective family members, and retirees.

Additionally, the Department of Defense said that TriWest Healthcare Alliance Corp., a nonprofit organization, has been selected to provide these health services in the West region.

The contract of TriWest Healthcare Alliance, which provides healthcare services to military families, has a potential value contract of about $65.1 million and a duration of up to 10 years, the Department of Defense added.
