It's happened again (and again!) - yet another independent biomonitoring report into the Russell River confirms the river, downstream of our hatchery, is in good health.

The 2021 report reinforces previous years reports that our Lonnavale freshwater hatchery (located near the Russell River) is not having an impact on downstream macroinvertebrates or algae.

Two of the assessment sites (downstream - at 50m and 200m) received an A rating (against the AUSRIVAS assessment protocol), while the upstream site received a B rating (yes, that's right - the river water upstream is not as good as the water downstream of the hatchery site!).

The macroinvertebrate faunas of all three sites were characteristic of a clean-water environment, with similar diversity including a broad range of the 'clean-water' (EPT) families Ephemenoptera, Plecoptera and Trichoptera at both upstream and downstream sites.
