CHICAGO (AP) _ Hyatt Hotels Corp. (H) on Wednesday reported a third-quarter loss of $161 million, after reporting a profit in the same period a year earlier.

On a per-share basis, the Chicago-based company said it had a loss of $1.59. Losses, adjusted for non-recurring costs, came to $1.48 per share.

The results missed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of nine analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for a loss of $1.25 per share.

The hotel operator posted revenue of $399 million in the period, which also missed Street forecasts. Six analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $448.6 million.

Hyatt Hotels shares have declined 36% since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Wednesday, shares hit $57.34, a fall of 26% in the last 12 months.
