Land Transport Authority (LTA) has awarded three contracts totaling SGD 954.1 million ($704.1 million) for the construction of North-South Corridor (NSC) viaduct between Sungei Seletar and Admiralty Road West. Work under the contracts is scheduled to commence in the first quarter of 2020. The contracts represent the last of the 14 NSC building contracts scheduled to be awarded. Planned for completion in 2026, the 21.5km NSC project aims to ease the increasing traffic along Singapore's north-south transportation corridor. Of the LTA's three contracts, the first contract valued at SGD 365.9 million ($270 million) was awarded to a consortium comprising Wai Fong Construction, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation Branch Office Singapore and China Railway 11 Bureau Group (Singapore Branch). Under the contract, the consortium will design and construct a 3.1km section of the viaduct located between Sungei Seletar and Yishun Avenue 5. The second and third contracts, which have a combined value of SGD 588.2 million ($434 million), were awarded to Hyundai Engineering & Construction. Hyundai Engineering & Construction will design and construct a 4.5km section of the viaduct located between Yishun Avenue 5 and Admiralty Road West. Earlier, Hyundai was involved in the construction of the DTL3 Macpherson Station, the NEL Sengkang depot, and several North-East Line (NEL) stations. The NSC also intersects with existing expressways including the Seletar Expressway (SLE), Pan Island Expressway (PIE) and East Coast Parkway (ECP) to improve the overall resilience of the road network. Additionally, the NSC project will be the country's longest Transit Priority Corridor (TPC) with dedicated and continuous bus lanes and bus signal priority. It will also provide dedicated cycling trunk routes into the city. Earlier this year, Shanghai Tunnel Engineering (Singapore) won a contract worth SGD 615.9 million ($454.5 million) from the LTA for a road tunnel, an MRT station box and commuter facilities between Sin Ming Avenue and Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3 as part of the NSC project. The company was selected to design and construct an 800m dual three-lane road tunnel integrated with the future Cross Island Line Teck Ghee MRT station and associated escape staircases and entrances.
