Congratulations to Rosebel for Achieving Triple Zero in October!

October 2020 was a triple zero month for Rosebel Gold Mines (RGM). This means that no Lost Time Incident (LTI), Modified Duty Incident (MDI) or Medical Aid Incident (MAI) have been registered for the entire month.

'Incidents cause suffering and have a direct impact on employees and, indirectly, on their family,' says Shalini Kesarsing, Superintendent OH&S. In addition to pain and suffering, incidents cost time and money. 'For that reason, it's a moral obligation for RGM to comply with IAMGOLD's Zero Harm commitment by providing a safe work environment.'

The COVID-19 pandemic and the measures taken by management have played a role, according to the Superintendent. 'I think the main reason is because the communication with employees regarding safety has increased.'

Achieving the triple zero has been a team effort, and each and every employee has a part in this. 'An increase in safety leadership and safety engagement with the workforce was verified in October. At the same time, the Health & Safety department provided safety-related support to departments in the form of inspections, audits, technical advice and training, and by personally being present at the workplace.'

To maintain the zero status, OH&S will always be present and provide its services in all possible ways. 'We will continue to motivate the leadership team to lead by example. Triple Zero is a great achievement and effort. It requires a commitment from everybody, from every employee to the General Managers, to achieve a Triple Zero site', says Kesarsing.
