Ignacio Galan said that 'the fight against climate change has guided our strategy and decision-making for the last two decades, during which we have invested more than 120 billion euros.

We have an ongoing commitment to speeding up the transition and contributing to progress in industry and employment based on the energy of the future, with investments in renewables, smart grids and storage in countries with clear frameworks that provide an incentive that will reach 150 billion euros within this decade'

Iberdrola has been recognised as one of the member companies of the Global Compact LEAD for its ongoing commitment to the UN Global Compact and the 10 principles for driving responsible business activity.

The utility, which has been part of this ranking for the fifth consecutive year, is the only Spanish member of this select group of companies, which represents 18 sectors of industry in every region of the world.

Ignacio Galan, chairman of Iberdrola, explained that, 'the fight against climate change has guided our strategy and decision-making for the last two decades, during which we have invested 120 billion euros. We have an ongoing commitment to speeding up the transition and contributing to the development of industry and employment around the energy of the future, with investments in renewables, smart grids and storage in countries with clear frameworks that provide incentives that will reach 150 billion euros in this decade'.

Iberdrola has been selected for the Global Compact LEAD within the framework of the 76th meeting of the General Assembly of the United Nations in New York, and is one of the organisations most focused on promoting a model of sustainable development. The company has formed part of the climate ambition and sustainable financing platforms, two areas where it has demonstrated its leadership. The Iberdrola progress report is available in its participant profile on the UN Global Compact website. The company has been a part of the UN Global Compact since 2002.

'LEAD companies represent the highest level of engagement with the UN Global Compact', said Sanda Ojiambo, general director of UN Global Compact. 'Now more than ever, the world needs more companies with a solid, forward looking project for a fairer, more sustainable future for us all'.
