Belated Mandela Day joy for Kutlwanong School for the Deaf

28 September 2021 - There was a joyful atmosphere at the Kutlwanong School for the Deaf in Phokeng when Impala Rustenburg's executives spent the afternoon visiting the school in honour of Mandela Day.

While the Level 4 Covid-19 lockdown delayed the Mandela Day plans, there was no deterring Impala from bringing the spirit of Madiba and his love of children to the school. The Impala executives brought party packs and an ice-cream truck, and they brightened up the Grade R playground by painting a mural of a mini city.

Kutlwanong School for the Deaf, the only school of its kind in the region, caters to hearing impaired children from Grade R to Grade 7 and its pupils are mainly boarders. The vibrant mural will bring colour to the lives of the children every day.

"The Kutlwanong School for the Deaf is more than just a place of learning for hearing impaired children - it's a space where these children are nurtured and loved, allowing them to blossom and realise their full potential. Since we began investing in the school as part of our social and labour plan, the children have touched our hearts. We consider it a privilege to be able to make a difference in the lives of children who tackle adversity with such courage and tenacity," said Mark Munroe, Chief Executive of Impala Rustenburg.
