• Minsait is responsible for the construction of the planning, deployment and maintenance systems for the fiber optic network of the German wholesale operator UGG, in which Telefónica has a stake
  • UGG has been authorized by the European Commission to deploy 50,000 kilometers of fiber in rural and semi-rural areas of the country

Minsait, an Indra company, has been selected by Unsere Grüne Glasfaser (UGG), an investee of Telefónica and Allianz, to design and integrate the systems for the creation and maintenance of the fiber optic network in its deployment in Germany.

UGG, which operates as a neutral wholesale operator, aims to deploy nationwide fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) networks to more than 2 million homes in rural and semi-rural areas (communities with fewer than 10,000 inhabitants) in Germany. The company has recently obtained authorization from the European Commission to deploy 50,000 kilometers of fiber in the country, a project with an estimated investment volume of around 5 billion euros over the next six years. These targets enable Germany to make a quantum leap in terms of the volume of fiber deployed across the country.

Minsait is developing the management systems that will enable the planning and maintenance of the new fiber network. These systems will be responsible for facilitating and automating the design and execution of the network deployment, including project management of the field work. This end-to-end automated management will accelerate a massive deployment of wholesale fiber optics in a short period of time, in accordance with the targets set by UGG.

Networking particularly entails the management of projects, works and sites, as well as the inventory of resources and topology, the management of addresses and homes, and document management (contracts, projects, permits, minutes, etc.). In relation to maintenance, it will manage incidents, requests, changes and management of field work teams.

Minsait has extensive experience working with the Telefónica Group in the deployment of fiber optic networks, such as those already deployed in rural regions of Spain and South America. In this way, both companies will also contribute to the economic and social development of these regions, while at the same time generating a positive environmental impact due to their efficient systems and technologies.
