The next generation of iTEC system will feature new technologies such as virtualisation, cloud computing and advanced automation to meet the challenges of the future Digital European Sky in areas such as resilience, scalability and sustainability
On 26 October at the Aireon Theatre, at 12:00 pm, iTEC members will explain how this new system will contribute to more efficient and environmentally friendly airspace management
The iTEC collaboration continues to progress its vision to modernise and build the Digital European Sky. At the 2021 World ATM Congress, to be held in Madrid from 26 to 28 October, the alliance partners will showcase the next generation of its technologies, which will support the sustainable recovery of aviation in the wake of COVID-19.
On 26 October at the Aireon Theatre at 12:00 pm, Torgeir Slotte, Head of Strategy at iTEC, will be discussing the features included in this new system version, which will achieve more efficient and environmentally friendly airspace management.
The air traffic management industry is facing complex tasks, such as the evolution towards a new European airspace architecture and its digitisation. The iTEC Alliance respond to these challenges with a common vision by its members, which allows a real ATM systems integration into a Single European Sky, delivering sustainability and flexibility to meet the needs of airlines and adapt to sudden changes in air traffic demand.
The new iTEC system will use the latest digital technologies to enable air traffic controllers to manage more flights and a growing number of airspace users whilst ensuring safety and efficiency.
This new generation will be built on the current iTEC system, which is already in use in some of the largest European air control centres, such as Karlsruhe (Germany) and Prestwick (United Kingdom), and which recently entered into operation in the Vilnius control centre (Lithuania).
The iTEC Alliance is participated by some of the world's most advanced air navigation service providers, with Indra as technology partner, with focus and commitment to develop the new generation in the long term.
With all this, the new generation of iTEC will mean a decisive step towards the implementation of the new architecture proposed by the Airspace Architecture Study (AAS) carried out by the European Commission and will enable the development of new business models, which will reduce operating costs and increase the resilience and scalability of the European network of control centres. The new system will have to be prepared to counter any present and future cyber threats.
