SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) _ Infinera Corp. (INFN) on Wednesday reported a loss of $53.8 million in its third quarter.

On a per-share basis, the San Jose, California-based company said it had a loss of 26 cents. Losses, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, were 1 cent per share.

The results surpassed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of six analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for a loss of 4 cents per share.

The communications equipment maker posted revenue of $355.8 million in the period, also exceeding Street forecasts. Five analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $355.7 million.

For the current quarter ending in December, Infinera said it expects revenue in the range of $369 million to $399 million.
