DAVIDSON, N.C. (AP) _ Ingersoll Rand Inc. (IR) on Wednesday reported second-quarter profit of $138.5 million.

On a per-share basis, the Davidson, North Carolina-based company said it had profit of 34 cents. Earnings, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, came to 54 cents per share.

The results topped Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of four analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 51 cents per share.

The maker of flow control and compression equipment posted revenue of $1.44 billion in the period, which also beat Street forecasts. Four analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $1.39 billion.
