SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) _ Inphi Corp. (IPHI) on Tuesday reported a loss of $12 million in its fourth quarter.

The San Jose, California-based company said it had a loss of 23 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, came to 91 cents per share.

The results topped Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of seven analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 88 cents per share.

The chip designer posted revenue of $187.5 million in the period, also topping Street forecasts. Five analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $187.2 million.

For the year, the company reported that its loss narrowed to $59.7 million, or $1.20 per share. Revenue was reported as $683 million.

Inphi shares have climbed 7.5% since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Tuesday, shares hit $172.44, more than doubling in the last 12 months.
