Insurance Australia : NRMA Insurance data reveals top 10 suburbs for collisions

NRMA Insurance is urging drivers, particularly those under the age of 25, to take extra caution on the road as new claims data reveals the most frequent locations for collisions across NSW.

Drivers under the age of 25 are involved in at least 9 per cent of accidents across NSW, the highest percentage of collisions compared to other age groups.

The most frequent suburbs for collisions for drivers under 25 were the Sydney CBD, Liverpool, Bankstown. Other suburbs in the top 10 included Penrith, Parramatta, Castle Hill and Wollongong south of Sydney.

The second highest age group for collisions was for drivers aged between 71 to 75-year-old who were involved in at least 8 per cent of collisions. The most frequent collision locations for these drivers were Port Macquarie, Coffs Harbour, Wagga Wagga and Dubbo in regional NSW, and Castle Hill, the Sydney CBD, Mosman and Penrith.

NRMA Insurance Executive General Manager Claims Luke Gallagher said this latest data provides a timely reminder on the importance of putting safety front of mind when stepping into a vehicle.

'Regardless of your age or driving experience, safety must be the number one priority for all of us when we get behind the wheel,' Mr Gallagher said.

'Our NRMA Insurance claims data shows us that these accidents are happening in busy areas like Sydney, Blacktown, Liverpool and Bankstown.

'It's an important reminder that whether you're driving in bumper-to-bumper traffic in the Sydney CBD, high traffic areas in the suburbs or even in regional towns, accidents can happen anywhere and at any time, so drivers need to slow down and put safety first and remind their family and friends to do the same.

'Be extra alert at some of the most common accident spots such as major intersections, vehicles merging lanes and during the busy peak hours in the morning and afternoon,' Mr Gallagher added.

NRMA Insurance claims data shows that the most common time for a collision is during the late morning (10am - 12pm) and afternoon (1pm - 5pm), with peak collisions around 3pm.*

In the event of a collision, NRMA Insurance recommends drivers:

• Stop if safe to do so and make sure everyone's okay,
• Exchange details with the other driver including the other driver's name, their address, license number and their vehicles registration number,
• Take photographs of the damage to the vehicles,
• Collect the details of any witnesses; and
• Contact us to lodge your claim.
