Scientist, Innovator, Mom - Catherine Cox Celebrates International Day of Women and Girls in Science
By | February 10, 2022Share
It seems like Catherine Cox's career at Integra was fated. A scientist by training, she uses her intimate knowledge of research and her passion for business to help ensure the strength of Integra's business. As director of Continuous Improvement, she engages with colleagues and leadership every day from her base in Ireland to pursue and enable a continuous improvement mindset and culture. And she loves it.

"The joy of Integra is that I have both the responsibility and power to innovate. Working with my colleagues, I help ensure they can deliver on their important work for patients, whether that's enabling recovery from a brain tumor or a burn."

Catherine earned her degrees in biochemistry and molecular biology, all the way through to a Ph.D. She took on research positions at universities and hospitals, and as a scientific investigator, centered her work around cancer and atherosclerosis.

After seven years, her interest in business grew and she jumped to positions in project management and manufacturing. Her scientific skillset - centered on analytical thinking and precision - made her a perfect candidate for roles in Operational Excellence, helping companies work faster and better. That's when Integra came calling.

Today, she brings stakeholders together from across the global company to share their perspective and collectively find ways to improve how they work. She is always in awe of the diverse ideas that drive advancements.

Knowing her work strengthens Integra so the company can do even more for patients fulfills her innate desire to help others, the same passion that drew her to research originally.

"We are all working together under the umbrella of Integra to help save and improve lives," she notes.

Of course, Catherine still makes time for the other priorities in her life - her family and being a mom and mentor to her daughter who is also pursuing a path in science:

"As a woman in science, I have been fortunate to lead and publish scientific research, mentor college students, and grow into a continuous improvement professional. My daughter is currently taking her first steps into a life in STEM, after choosing to major in geophysics. My hope is that my experience will support her as I have been encouraged and driven by the many women I have learned from."
