Today, Intel announced a new collaboration with HashiCorp to help customers accelerate their cloud journey and optimize the cost, performance and security of their cloud workloads.
HashiCorp provides open source and commercial products that enable developers, operators and security professionals to provision, secure, connect and run cloud-computing infrastructure through automation. Together, the companies will provide developers with Sentinel policy recommendations leveraging built-in Intel Xeon Scalable accelerators to optimize workloads and improve the return on investment of their cloud strategy.
'Intel and HashiCorp see an opportunity to deliver optimizations through automated infrastructure provisioning that ensures customers realize the return and value from their cloud investments. Through this collaboration, HashiCorp is leveraging Intel Xeon processor technology and creating a library of Intel recommendations using policy as code (PaC) to influence the developer experience at the point of consumption.'
Janet George, Intel corporate vice president and general manager of the Cloud and Enterprise Solutions Group
Why It Matters: As organizations continue to move more workloads to the public cloud, developers turn to repeatable templates and code to provision the infrastructure needed to expedite development activities. This shift helps developers work faster; however, it also escalates cloud costs, security risks and workstream inefficiencies due to suboptimal infrastructure choices. Policies are an important part to standardizing infrastructure automation for developers who are provisioning infrastructure to run their applications.
How It Works: HashiCorp's Terraform is an infrastructure as code software tool that enables teams to more safely and predictably create, change and improve infrastructure. With Intel Xeon and Terraform Cloud, enterprise organizations will have access to a robust library of policy as code recommendations, delivered as HashiCorp Sentinel policies, that can help improve migration support with public cloud providers, infrastructure provisioning, and aligning business planning and preventing costly redeployment. For example, during migration, the solution can recommend a specific silicon feature or VM instance type based on the workload characteristics to optimize performance and outcomes. Over time, the Intel-optimized workloads and corresponding Sentinel policies will grow to create greater value. Organizations will be able to leverage Intel's global ecosystem, including notable Integrated Service Providers and Systems Integrators, to help accelerate and support implementation of new cloud computing resources and migration services, further closing the potential skills gap across enterprises.
About Availability
To get started, customers will be able to access Terraform Cloud, Sentinel policies and migration services via the AWS and Azure marketplaces beginning in early 2023.
