Quoted Portfolio

The main positive contributors to the NAV in the month were Amgen, Biohaven and Vertex. Amgen received FDA approval for their drug tezepelumab (Tezspire) for the treatment of asthma. Biohaven shares recovered from a previous decline caused by news of a collaboration with Pfizer for their migraine drug Nurtec in November which reduced the likelihood of it being an acquisition target. Vertex announced positive clinical data from a phase 2 trial in focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS), a rare kidney condition.

The main detractors from the NAV in the month were Alnylam, BridgeBio and Uniqure. BridgeBio announced disappointing phase 3 data for their drug acoramidis which is in development to investigate the treatment of a rare progressive heart condition called transthyretin mediated cardiomyopathy. Alnylam shares fell as they near the outcome of a similar trial that now carries a higher risk of failure. Uniqure reported early, but the limited data led to disappointment for those hoping for more conclusive results for their gene- therapy treatment for Huntington's disease

Unquoted Portfolio

The Trust's investment in venture capital fund, SV Fund VI, has generated a GBP net IRR of 23.0% since the date of the Trust's first investment. The Trust received a distribution from SV Fund VI during December, amounting to £0.9m. The distribution is being made in connection with the receipt of funds related to Bioventus, Inc. Deciphera Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Pionyr Immunotherapeutics, Inc. and Aligned Telehealth, Inc. As SV Fund VI is in the harvesting stage of its life, in accordance with the Trusts strategy to maintain its exposure to unquoted companies within a 5%-15% of NAV range, the Board of International Biotechnology Trust plc has made the decision to invest in SV Health Investors' forthcoming biotechnology focussed private fund, SV Biotech Crossover Opportunities Fund LP.

Discount/Premium

Control Mechanism

The Board regularly reviews the methods for managing both the discount and premium. The Board considers that conducting share buybacks can help to manage the discount of its share price to NAV, therefore enhancing share price performance for existing Shareholders. When the share price is trading at a premium to NAV, Shareholders have given the Board permission to reissue shares previously bought back or new shares at a premium to NAV.
