KPMG said it had appointed administrators to Britain's Intu Properties on Friday after the owner of shopping centres including Manchester's Trafford Centre and Lakeside in Essex failed to secure a debt repayment agreement with its creditors.

"All of the shopping centres will remain open and operational while the joint administrators assess options for the business and assets of the group," KPMG said.
