Congratulations to ITS-NY Board Member Joseph Chow who has been granted the title of Institute Associate Professor in recognition of his significant accomplishments in research, teaching, and service at New York University!

Dr. Joseph Chow is a faculty member in the Department of Civil and Urban Engineering and the Deputy Director of C2SMART, a Tier-1 University Transportation Center at NYU. He also heads NYU's Behavioral Urban Informatics, Logistics and Transport Laboratory. His research is focused on transportation systems and smart cities of the future, and his recent projects include formulating guidelines for planning on-demand transit services, platform economics methods to design electric shared mobility systems, and developing a multi-agent simulation test bed for evaluating emerging transportation technologies and policies such as congestion pricing and transit operations under COVID-19. His contributions can be felt by all travelers in New York City and beyond. In addition, Professor Chow is a devoted teacher and one who is known to be highly popular by his students.

Applying the NIST Framework to Transportation Systems

Course Details:

This course is designed for State and local highway agencies and private sector firms that support planning and project implementation related to intelligent transportation systems (ITS) with an understanding of cybersecurity fundamentals. The objective of this course is to provide transportation professionals with the foundation to begin cyber initiatives or improve existing programs within their transportation organization.

Participants will learn the foundations for applying the NIST cybersecurity framework to their organization in the form of a case study. Within the training series, they will learn about the contributions of the NIST Cybersecurity Framework and how cyber threats impact an agency's infrastructure and operations. The NIST Framework is presented as a set of standards, guidelines, and best practices that participants can apply to their own case study considerations. The ITS-NY Board of Directors would like to extend our congratulations to the NYU-ITE Tandon Student Chapter as recipients of the 'Student Chapter Achievement award' and the inaugural 'Student Chapter Momentum Award'. Both awards were provided at the ITE Annual Meeting & Exhibition in recognition of the improvement and outstanding services the Student Chapter provided to its members over the past year.
