Sainsbury's is bringing its commitment to help everyone eat better to more customers in Cheshire with the opening of its newest convenience store. Sainsbury's Woolston Manchester Road Local, Warrington, invited the local community to try out its new store for the first time this morning.

Now open from 7am to 11pm every day, the new 3,014 sq. ft. store will bring more convenience and choice to customers in Woolston. From fresh fruit and veg, healthy snacks and food-to-go to sweet, savoury and frozen favourites in grocery, it will offer Sainsbury's great value range of high-quality food, drink and general merchandise. Customers will also be able to choose from a delicious selection of freshly baked bread and pastries every day, hot drinks from the Costa Coffee machine and even pick up Argos, Habitat and Tu Clothing products ordered online via the instore Click and Collect service.

Situated on the corner of Manchester Road and New Cut Lane, the new Sainsbury's Local will serve and help customers form the neighbouring community as well as passers-by on their way to and from Warrington town centre. It includes a private customer carpark with seventeen parking spaces, helping to make shopping easier for those travelling from further afield.

The store has teamed up with Warrington Foodbank as its local food donation partner and CEO David McDonald joined colleagues to cut the ribbon and celebrate its launch. The partnership will see both customer donations and surplus food from the store redistributed to those in the local community who need it most as part of Sainsbury's sustainability Plan for Better. This includes a commitment to reduce food waste by 50 per cent by 2035, and the retailer recently reported an increase of 119 per cent in food distribution to people in the 52 weeks ended 5 March 2022, versus the previous year.

Of the 20 colleagues who make up the Sainsbury's Manchester Road team, 14 are new to the company. The new store will play an active role in the local community both via local partnerships such as Warrington Foodbank and also through Sainsbury's nationwide charity programmes. For example, in 2022 Sainsbury's colleagues helped raise a total of over £6 million for Comic Relief, in addition to the £2 million the retailer donated as a business to support the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine.

Patrick Dunne, Sainsbury's Property Director, said: "Ever since our plans to bring a new Sainsbury's Local to Woolston were approved in 2020, we've been working hard to see them through. I'm delighted with the end result, which is a bright, fresh convenience store that will put more customers in Warrington within easy reach of Sainsbury's great value, high quality products."

Simon Fleury, Sainsbury's Woolston Manchester Road Local Store Manager, said: "This is a proud moment for my team and I as we take the opportunity to showcase our brilliant service and products to our new customers for the first time. We can't wait to hear what the community thinks of their new store and we look forward to serving and helping them for years to come."
