As local governments' budgets shrink from the effects of the pandemic and other factors, citizens' needs for service and support remain stronger than ever. Some governments have successfully outsourced key services to maximize efficiency and reach, while others may have encountered financial and operations snags.
As a municipal-services thought leader, Jacobs Program Manager Jim Nichols has counseled public agencies in the process to identify services most suited for outsourcing. His upcoming December 14 webinar, presented by theInternational City/County Management Associationand titledManaging Service Delivery: A Guide to Outsourcingwill cover the core issues of outsourcing, including when it makes sense to outsource, the characteristics of an effective public-private partnership and the distinction, and common misconceptions of outsourcing versus privatization. The seminar takes place from 1-2:30 p.m. Eastern time.
"Because Jacobs developed this practice over nearly two decades of delivering city services, we have much to share from our experience," shares Jim. "We'll discuss real-life success stories from our extensive tenure supporting municipalities and advancing public-private partnerships." Jim himself has served as a city manager, deputy city manager, public works director and advisor to local governments over his 30-year career.
