Celebrating women's achievements at James Fisher

This International Women's Day (8 March) James Fisher is proud to celebrate our inspirational females across the company who areraisingtheir hands in support of this year's theme.

The observation of International Women's Day datesback to the early 20thcentury, and has been celebrated globally by the United Nations since 1977to highlight the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women, with an aim to help improve women's equality.

This year's theme is #Choosetochallenge, a campaign focused on challenging gender bias and inequality while celebrating women's achievements. As an inclusive company, James Fisher and Sons is proudto sharethe #Choosetochallenge selfies received from its female family.

In honour of this day of awareness, James Fisher held a discussion with JFD's inspiring STEM ambassador, Mini Nimbair, who talks about her role as research and development project manager and her career achievements to date.

Playing an integral role in the innovation team at JFD, Mini is responsible for delivering research and development projects that improve safety of underwater operations.

Mini, says:

'I'm really excited to be working with a brilliant team developing new innovative solutions. In response to the pandemic, we launched InVictoTM; a truly novel ventilator system that is currently undergoing a comprehensive set of clinical trials supporting COVID-19patients in India. In recognition of the monumental effort by the team at JFD and external collaborators to develop this device, this project has been selected as a joint winner in The Engineer 'Collaborate to Innovate' Awards. Recently Invictoalso won the COVID-19 Pandemic Initiatives Award at the 2020 IMCA Awards.'

Mini's journey to becoming a STEM ambassadorstarted when she explored the Aberdeen Science Centre's exhibits and resources.

Mini says:

'I really enjoy working with young people - their curiosity, positive energy and enthusiasm inspires me all the time. As part of volunteering, I help run lunch-time science club sessions at our local primary school and we have been looking at remote digital support amidst this pandemic. There are also a wide range of volunteering opportunities to support various events broadcasted by the STEM Learning digital platform. The activities range from supporting a school on a particular STEM activity to career talks or mentoring.'
