JFD celebratesa double award win for InVictoTM

JFD wins the COVID-19 Pandemic Initiatives Award at the 2020 IMCA Awards and Healthcare & Medical - COVID response category at the Collaborate to Innovate Awards with its InVictoTMventilator.

InVicto™ was created in response to the UK government's ventilator challenge in 2020as the COVID-19 pandemic placed a huge strain on healthcare systems globally. JFD has won its second awardthis month for the innovative product,which is currently undergoing clinical trials in India and under evaluation by clinicians in the US, South America, Turkey and Norway. Winningboth the COVID-19 Pandemic Initiatives Awardat the 2020 IMCA Awardsand the Healthcare & Medical - COVID response category at the Collaborate toInnovate Awards is a testament to the product and its capability.

Whilst the project was initiated by JFD, collaboration was instrumental given that a number of technology gaps were identified and time was of the essence. In order to utilise experts from a range of fields to create the ventilator, a consortium value chain was created which was initially based on skill sets and then matured into specific organisations. These were Frazer-Nash Consultancy, Angus 3D Solutions, MDU, Narayana Health and Innovhealth.

JFD explains:'Through innovation and collaboration, the InVictoTMsystem was rapidly designed specifically to meet the needs of patients suffering acute COVID-19 symptoms. It sits in its own medical device space between Invasive Mechanical Ventilation and Non-Invasive breathing support and as a small mechanical device, with no moving parts, the ventilator attaches to an oral-nasal breathing mask worn by the patient to provide oxygen enriched ventilation with pressure support. This is a highly portable, cost effective solution that can be produced quickly at scale and is suitable for use in both standard hospital environments and remote field hospitals alike.'

The InVicto™ ventilator is more advanced than CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) systemsandcan support global healthcare services by reducing pressure on intensive care unit (ICU) facilities, helping to save lives as the virus continues to peak in many countries.

International Marine Contractors Association's (IMCA)Chief Executive,Allen Leatt,said:

'We had a good number of nominations for each of the three Awards which in turn elicited much discussion and debate amongst our judges. I thank all who entered; and congratulate all who won and were shortlisted.'
