Malaysia Airlines and Japan Airlines Take To The Skies Together.

The two flag carriers reached a new milestone as they join forces amidst the ongoing pandemic.

The air travel industry saw a drastic shift over the first two quarters of 2020. The events preceding the COVID-19 pandemic debilitated the world of flying as we know it. However, a gradual recovery is underway as industry key players are currently charting a new course for the future of aviation, especially for commercial flights.

In line with this movement, Malaysia Airlines and Japan Airlines are cooperating on flights between Kuala Lumpur and Tokyo Narita, starting in July 2020. Between the two flag carriers, four weekly services from each city are available for booking.

'I am excited that the Joint Business is finally taking off after a few months of delay due to travel restrictions between both countries,' said Captain Izham Ismail, Group Chief Executive Officer of Malaysia Airlines. 'We look forward to the bilateral discussions between the governments of Malaysia and Japan to establish a travel bubble between the two countries, which will ease restrictions for cross-border travel.' With this move, it is expected that commerce, trade and tourism for both countries will receive a boost, thus helping to revive the economy for both nations.

Once the travel bubble between the two countries has been worked out, travellers can look forward to business as well as leisure travel between these two cities in the near future. Travellers need not worry about standard operating procedures amidst the ongoing pandemic, as the two airlines maintain that measures will be implemented to curb the spread of COVID-19. 'While our expanded relationship is being launched during unprecedented times, it has allowed both Japan Airlines and Malaysia Airlines to ensure that high standards of safety and hygiene are in place from the onset for our mutual customers' peace of mind,' said the President of Japan Airlines, Yuji Akasaka.

Both airlines are deeply committed to uphold the highest standards in aircraft safety and hygiene procedures to safeguard their passengers and employees. With the significant shift in consumer expectations on air travel, Malaysia Airlines and Japan Airlines are adjusting to the new norm with modifications to offerings on ground and on board, as well as processes and procedures from check- in, to boarding as well as during arrival in order to uphold the highest safety and health standards.
