Solar Power Generation Start at China Manufacturing Subsidiary

Japan Display Inc. (JDI) is working to contribute to a zero-carbon society by reducing greenhouse gases that drive climate change. As part of these efforts, JDI's Tottori Plant (Japan) produces solar power on-site, and as of this month Suzhou JDI Electronics Inc. (SE), JDI's manufacturing subsidiary in China, has also begun roof-top solar power generation. The power generated is expected to cover c. 20% of the SE Plant's daytime power usage.

Solar and wind power generation is increasing rapidly in China, supported by the government's policy of promoting green energy businesses. SE is deploying an on-site solar generation model, leasing its rooftops to a service provider which owns, installs, and maintains the solar power system. This enables SE to reduce up-front system costs while giving SE preferentially access to the solar power generated.
