Japan Lifeline Receives Regulatory Approval for Abdominal Stent Graft Alto

Japan Lifeline is pleased to announce that it has received regulatory approval for Alto*1, a stent graft system for the treatment of abdominal aortic aneurysms manufactured by Endologix Inc. (California, USA) It will be approved for coverage under the National Health Insurance in July of this year. Market launch is to follow thereafter.

Japan Lifeline already sells the AFX2 Stent Graft System manufactured by Endologix in Japan, and it has been highly evaluated. With the addition of the Alto to its product lineup, Japan Lifeline expects to further increase its competitiveness in the aortic treatment field, as it will be able to handle cases that are difficult to handle with the AFX2 Stent Graft System.

The Alto's stent graft system has a unique structure in which the main body's stent structure and the PTFE graft (artificial blood vessel) do not overlap. This allows the delivery system for implanting the stent graft to have an outer diameter of 15Fr, which is the thinnest among the current competitive products. Furthermore, the graft is fixed to the vessel by filling the sealing ring placed around the circumference of the graft with a biocompatible polymer and pressing the graft against the vessel wall. This method reduces the risk of endoleak*2 compared to the stent-only fixation type, while allowing the stent graft to be used in a variety of vessel shapes. These unique structures enable the Alto to be stably implanted in the treatment area even in cases of small vessels or complicated tortuous vessels, which is difficult to achieve with conventional stent grafts.

Japan Lifeline's surgery-related products cover a wide range of the aortic treatment field. On top of vascular graft for open chest surgery and stent graft for percutaneous treatment using catheters, it also handles open stent graft that is a hybrid type of the above two. With the introduction of the Alto, Japan Lifeline is excited to meet more diverse needs in the medical field than ever before and to expand the sales of the product.

*1 The product name was "Ovation Alto" in the past, but it has changed to be "Alto" now *2 endoleak: A leakage of blood from gap between stent graft and aortic neck to aneurysm
