Japan Petroleum Exploration Co., Ltd. (JAPEX) announced that the Soma LNG terminal (Shinchi-machi, Soma County, Fukushima Prefecture) resumed the operation regarding the supply of regasified gas from liquefied natural gas (LNG) to our gas pipeline network at 6:00 p.m. yesterday and the LNG shipping by tank trucks on 1:00 p.m. today, from temporarily shut down following the earthquake off the coast of Fukushima Prefecture that occurred on March 16, 2022.

In order to resume the operation from the suspension due to the earthquake, the Soma LNG Terminal had proceeded with confirmation, inspection, and restoration efforts of the facilities. From the afternoon of March 17, inspection, security confirmation, and trial operations had sequentially proceeded in the facilities of LNG regasification, gas delivery to our gas pipeline network, and LNG shipping by tank trucks. After that, supplying LNG regasified gas to our pipeline network restarted at 6:00 p.m. yesterday and has been continuing stable operation. LNG shipping by tank trucks also resumed normal operation after 1:00 p.m. today after confirmation of operation in its facilities, thus completing the shift to the regular operations for each function.

In the operation of LNG/liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) receiving and LNG shipping, we will proceed with recovery works for damages on certain facilities of jetties for ocean-going LNG carriers and domestic vessels and take procedures to acquire confirmation by the authorities as soon as possible to resume operations on the jetties.

Besides, we have completed check-ups and inspections of our facilities to supply LNG regasified gas for fuel to the Fukushima Natural Gas Power Plant, which is adjacent to the terminal and is operated by Fukushima Gas Power Ltd. (FGP, 33% share of JAPEX). We will restart to supply fuel to the plant as their operation resume.

The power plant of FGP was automatically shut down due to the earthquake and currently has been suspending operation. Although proceeding with confirmation and inspection by FGP, the time to resume operation has not been determined yet.

JAPEX will continue to work on the operation of the facilities, placing the highest priority on safety.
