The Swiss finance research company Obermatt compiled the "CEO of the Year" ranking exclusively for the WirtschaftsWoche magazine. The results included in equal shares both the 2011 operative and stock-exchange performance of the 115 biggest stock-listed German companies in comparison to 2010. The ranking itself was a result of the comparison between competitors worldwide.

According to the results, Jenoptik CEO Michael Mertin was almost as good as the winner, Audi CEO Rupert Stadler. Jenoptik could outperform more than 82 percent of its competitors in both criteria combined. The third place was awarded to Thorsten Reitmeyer, CEO of Comdirect Bank.

The magazine emphasized the Jenoptik strategy as a market- and customer-oriented technology company as well as the reduction of net debt, the focus on cash flows and Jenoptik's commitment for a more attractive work environment.
