Jenoptik is acquiring the Australian company DCD Systems and consequently expanding its business in the Asia-Pacific region. In addition, the Group will in future be concentrating its entire Asia business within a holding company in Singapore.
In order to develop the market in the Asia-Pacific region on a long-term basis Jenoptik has acquired 100 percent of the Australian company DCD Systems Pty. Ltd, a provider of traffic safety technology based in Sydney and Melbourne. The parties agreed not to disclose the purchase price.
"We are consistently pursuing our course of internationalization", said Jenoptik Chairman Michael Mertin. "In this process we are following the principle of having a direct presence close to our customers. With our own sales and service structures in Australia we are strengthening the role of our Traffic Solutions division as a leading global provider in this segment."
Jenoptik has maintained a close working relationship with DCD Systems for more than 10 years. The company has 11 employees and generates annual sales in the single digit million euro range. It was previously the sales and service partner for the Jenoptik Traffic Solutions division in Australia. Within the framework of the acquisition DCD Systems will be integrated into the corporate and brand structure of the optoelectronics group.
With this acquisition Jenoptik is expanding its access to a key market for traffic safety technology. Australia is seen as a pioneer in standards, both for the technical equipment as well as for services and processes, the so-called Traffic Service Providing. Jenoptik technology has previously been in use primarily in the two Australian federal states of New South Wales and Victoria.

Dieter Mönch will remain Managing Director and together with his team continue the company's operating business.
Jenoptik has all the technologies of modern traffic monitoring at its disposal: laser scanner, radar, piezo technology and induction loops. This means that the ideal and most economical solution can be supplied to meet any customer requirement in any environment.
Jenoptik is acquiring the Australian company DCD Systems. Managing Director Dieter Mönch will together with his team continue the company's operating business on site.
Jenoptik sees growth opportunities primarily in Asia and America. In order to intensify the targeting of the South East Asian market, Jenoptik formed an Asian holding company with registered offices in Singapore in November 2012. "We will in future be concentrating our entire Asia business under the umbrella of JENOPTIK Asia-Pacific Pty. Ltd," says Jenoptik CFO Rüdiger Andreas Günther.
Last year Jenoptik made progress on its path to becoming a global player by developing and expanding its own structures abroad extensively and at pace. Spring 2012 saw the formation of JENOPTIK do Brasil, located in São Paulo, the center of the Brazilian automotive industry. In May 2012 Jenoptik established a presence in Singapore, JENOPTIK South-East Asia, from where, as a first step, the Jenoptik Industrial Metrology division will be expanding its business for the automotive and supplier industry.
As an integrated optoelectronics group Jenoptik operates in the five divisions Lasers & Material Processing, Optical Systems, Industrial Metrology, Traffic Solutions and Defense & Civil Systems. In the Traffic Solutions division, Jenoptik develops, manufactures and markets components and systems that increase road traffic safety throughout the world. The product portfolio, which is based on the proven Robot technology, includes comprehensive systems for all aspects of road traffic, such as speed and red-light monitoring systems as well as OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) products and systems for detecting traffic violations. In the services area, the Jenoptik division covers every aspect of the support process chain - from system development, construction and installation of the monitoring infrastructure, to capturing images of infringements and their automatic processing, through to issuing the citations and collecting the fines as the system operator.
