From March 15-17, 2016, Jenoptik presents product highlights and solutions of its Healthcare & Industry division in Hall W4, booth #4140 of the Shanghai New International Expo Center. Exhibits are for example single emitters and a new femtosecond disk laser.

Highly-requested single emitters radiating at 808 nm added to the portfolio

Jenoptik adds three new single emitters to its portfolio. The new products emit at a wavelength of 808 nm and can be used as pump sources of solid-state lasers with lower power, for diode direct and micro-marking applications, metrology and instrumentation, as well as for manufacturing of compact near infrared (NIR) light sources.

The power-scaled emitter chips have a cavity length of 2 and 4 mm and apertures of 95, 100, and 200 µm, all being based on TM-polarized material. Short-cavity devices have an output power of 4 Watt with a wall-plug efficiency of more than 60 percent. Long-cavity devices with 100 µm-wide emitters run at 7 W and devices with 200 µm-wide emitters provide 10 W output power with wall-plug efficiencies of about 55 percent. Furthermore, first results of working on 5-emitter bars operating at 40 W will be present.

Jenoptik's enlarged single emitter portfolio provides the company's customers with more design flexibility and allows for even more cost-efficient system layouts.

New industrial 16-watts femtosecond laser

Jenoptik has manufactured lasers for industrial and medical applications since several decades, and had presented one of the first femtosecond lasers for industrial use in the market ten years ago.

The company now presents a 16-W version as the new top model of its established JenLas® femto series for industrial micro-machining for the first time. The JenLas® femto 16 features a pulse energy up to 80 microjoules, a free and quickly adjustable pulse repetition rate from 100 to 510 kilohertz, single shot ability, an internal SHG option (THG on request) and reliable operation at up to 35°C ambient temperature.

The performance of this femtosecond laser is ideal for drilling injection nozzles and also provides a high productivity in cutting and structuring processes, at higher material removal rates compared to picosecond pulses. In addition, the outstanding quality of machining achievable with this disk laser yields cost reduction at subsequent cleaning steps.

The Yb-doped laser's typical pulse width of 550 femtoseconds facilitates processes like

  • non-thermal ablation of nearly all materials (damage- and burr-free processing of Polymers, NiTi, etc.)
  • nonlinear absorption in transparent materials (efficient machining of sapphire or glass)
  • material-selective ablation in multi-layer systems
  • inner marking of transparent materials
  • scribing of invisible pre-determined break lines.

Reliable 24/7 operation in industrial environments is based on a robust monolithic cavity and long-life, maintenance-free components like powerful pump diodes and a further enhanced oscillator.

Besides laser sources, Jenoptik delivers optical accessories like circular polarizers, beam expanders or F-Theta lenses. The company also offers the development of customized optical solutions from the laser to the focus for healthcare and industrial laser applications, as well as worldwide application and service support with subsidiaries in Europe, in the U.S., and APAC regions.
